United for the Protection of Los Chorros Park
At FUNDEMA PP and Primates de Grecia, our commitment to local conservation goes far beyond conversation, it is about getting our feet on the ground and taking direct action to safeguard the natural ecosystems we cherish.
Recently, our teams participated in a field visit to Parque Los Chorros, joining forces with a student from the Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR) as part of an ongoing collaborative project with the Municipalidad de Grecia.
Modern Technology Meets Local Conservation
Protecting a natural park requires precise knowledge of its boundaries, terrain, and biological resources. To achieve this, our joint initiative focuses on mapping and surveying the area using state-of-the-art tools:
GPS Mapping: Accurately identifying and demarcating existing hiking trails and official park boundaries.
LiDAR Drone Technology: Utilizing advanced aerial laser technology to map the dense canopy, topography, and vital water sources (nacientes) within the park.
By gathering this detailed spatial data, we can build an accurate picture of the park’s landscape—laying the groundwork for targeted, highly effective conservation strategies.
