At Fundema we are convinced that environmental education is the cornerstone for building a conscious, reflective society that is truly committed to sustainability.
In Costa Rica, and particularly in the Western region, having exceptional biodiversity requires us to take environmental knowledge beyond textbooks.
We work hand in hand with schools, colleges, universities, and academic program developers to bring environmental education to all levels. We aim to bridge the gap between classrooms and the natural world, facilitating spaces where theory becomes experience, conservation, and applied research.

Example Project: Educating today to protect tomorrow
I have had the opportunity to participate in environmental education talks in educational centers in the canton of Grecia, sharing with children about the importance of caring for our biodiversity, protecting wildlife, and understanding that each of our actions can make a difference.
I've always believed it's not just about reaching a lot of people. If each talk helps at least one child change their way of thinking, appreciate nature more, and understand that they too can be part of protecting it, then it's all been worthwhile for me.
Perhaps today it is just a conversation, a photograph, a story or an experience that sparks their curiosity; but tomorrow that child can become a person committed to protecting our forests, rivers and animals.
Environmental education does not always produce results that we can see immediately.
It's about planting a seed and trusting that one day it will bear fruit. And as long as there's a chance to inspire even just one child, I'll continue to believe it's worthwhile.
